An ecovillage is a pioneering village in eco-friendly building! Every aspect, from installations to architecture, from building technology to legislation, will be discussed during the visit!
What is an ecovillage?
Since the late 1960s, ecovillage initiatives have been launched worldwide to put alternative sustainable lifestyles into practice. Ecovillages are communities aiming to be socially, economically, and ecologically sustainable. Most have a size of between 50 and 150 people. A number of them have gained international renown, such as Findhorn in Scotland, Zegg in Germany, Damanhur in Italy, Auroville in India, and The Farm in America. There are now tens of thousands of ecovillages worldwide (4,000 in Europe). Most have joined the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). We have also joined GEN as an aspiring member. GEN has provided us with many contacts and made it possible for us to attend many workshops. GEN is affiliated with the United Nations as an advisory body. We will get a tour of the village and do some practical work as well. It is going to be a nice day!
